The “half-man, half-amazing, one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions,” MVP, celebrated his one-year anniversary as a SmackDown Superstar (check out MVP’s one year tribute page) by throwing a party in his VIP Lounge. Matt Hardy visited his co-champion and the United States Champion bearing several gifts – a music video commemorating the Ballin’ Superstar’s less-than-greatest ring moments; an insulting toast over a bottle of Cristal; and the gift of competition, in the formidable form of Kane. A shocked MVP entered the match with his own game plan, and when Kane looked for the chokeslam to seal the victory, the Franchise Playa kicked the Big Red Monster in the family bling, resulting in a life-saving disqualification. JBL jibes, Rey retaliates, Finlay flattens
After being attacked verbally by JBL and physically by Finlay last week, Rey Mysterio entered Conseco Fieldhouse intent on setting the record straight with SmackDown’s color commentator. During another face-to-face interview in the ring, an irate JBL began to bully and push Mysterio. This time, though, Rey pushed back, delivering the 619 to the man whom he forced into retirement more than a year ago. Finlay suddenly entered the ring and unleashed an attack of his own, clobbering Mysterio in the skull with his shillelagh. Punjabi Prison talk
Hopefully, Rey Mysterio will have fully recovered when SmackDown rolls into Dayton, Ohio next week, as it was revealed last Friday that he’ll face The Great Khali in ring action. During an interview with the Punjabi goliath, translator Ranjin Singh brought up the contest as more of a warning for the World Heavyweight Champion, Batista, whom Khali will meet inside a Punjabi Prison Match at No Mercy. On Khali’s behalf, Singh noted that Rey Mysterio could conceivably run away next week. “You, Batista, on the other hand, have no such option inside the Punjabi Prison…. Inside the Punjabi Prison, The Great Khali will show no fear. The Great Khali will have no remorse. The Great Khali will have no mercy.”

Earlier in the evening, the World Heavyweight Champion admitted to SmackDown announcers Michael Cole and JBL that he had no real strategy going into the Punjabi Prison Match. But he welcomed the insurmountable challenge that awaited him. As he pointed out, “It’s dangerous locking me in a cage. It’s dangerous backing me into a corner…. When you back me into a corner, I lash out. And when I lash out, people get hurt. If he wants this World Heavyweight Title back, he’ll have to pry it out of my dead hands.”

Revving it up
Last Friday, Chuck Palumbo continued what’s shaping up to be an impressive winning streak with another decisive victory over Kenny Dykstra. Palumbo has been on a tear since rejoining SmackDown, and his Full Throttle offense has kept Dykstra on the down side of their encounters. Will the competitive hunger of the young lion Palumbo ride on past Dykstra, or can the self-proclaimed “future Hall of Famer” find a way to break through eventually?

Cruiser-what?!
Jamie Noble ended his own recent streak of embarrassments when he defeated Shannon Moore on SmackDown. But there was much bigger Cruiserweight news afoot Friday night, coming from the office of Vickie Guerrero, who Mr. McMahon appointed as SmackDown’s Acting General Manager earlier that evening. Shouldering the responsibilities of Theodore Long – who remains in a coma in an Atlanta medical facility, following the massive heart attack he suffered at his wedding a week earlier – Vickie voiced deep concerns for Hornswoggle’s wellbeing, pointing out that being Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate son and Cruiserweight Champion of the World made him too large a target. Therefore, she ordered the poor leprechaun champion to abdicate the Cruiserweight Title. How will Mr. McMahon’s “li’llegitimate” son fare without his gold? Watch the video…
Torrie terrorized
SmackDown’s Torrie Wilson endured a trying Friday night In her own right. First, she was unable to find a way to match Victoria’s viciousness in the squared circle, losing their one-on-one match. Deadman rises, Henry falls
After being out of action more than four months at the powerful hands of Mark Henry, Undertaker made a triumphant return to Friday Night SmackDown. Though he had already defeated Henry at Unforgiven only six days earlier, The Phenom gained further retribution against the self-proclaimed Silverback for costing him the World Heavyweight Championship last May. The Deadman systematically decimated the World’s Strongest Man in a physically brutal confrontation, sending a message to all of SmackDown’s Superstars: Undertaker is back, and better than ever.

After five months off with a broken arm, Hardcore Holly was ready to make his mark in the ring.

And in a town famous for its beer, trouble was brewing for Cody Rhodes at the hands of the returning ring veteran. As punishment for disobeying Acting General Manager Jonathan Coachman and attacking Randy Orton last week on Raw, Rhodes faced the returning former six-time Hardcore Champion in his first match back.

Holly chided Rhodes in the ring before their match.

“With a name like that, you should be in a boy band and not in a wrestling ring,” Holly said. “You don’t get my respect based on your name. If you want my respect, you need to earn it.”

The young Rhodes didn’t back down from the returning veteran, pelting him with punches and dropkicks. But Holly was able to dodge Rhodes’ springboard plancha attempt, then finish him off with a powerful Alabama Slam.

With an impressive return, Holly put the Raw locker room on notice that he’s back and better than ever.

Tag turmoil:
Paul London & Brian Kendrick knew that a victory over World Tag Team Champions Lance Cade &Trevor Murdoch in a non-title contest would ensure them a title match next week on Raw. As Kendrick had Murdoch covered for the pinfall, The Highlanders came in and beat down Kendrick & London, causing a disqualification. The Scottish cousins were upset that they weren’t granted a title opportunity, and wanted to thwart London & Kendrick’s chance for yet another title match.

Italian iced:
Santino Marella and Ron Simmons squared off in an attempt to settle their recent rivalry over Santino’s girlfriend, Maria. But after taking a pummeling from the former three-time World Tag Team Champion, Marella fled. Maria implored Marella to return to the ring, but Marella took Maria’s arm and led her away, conceding the “damn” count-out to Simmons.

Flying high:
Beth Phoenix continued to show her dominance over Raw Divas and put Women’s Champion Candice Michelle on notice when she and Shelton Benjamin defeated the championship pair of Women’s Champion Candice Michelle & Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy. As the men battled outside the ring, the Glamazon hit a distracted Candice from behind, and then flattened her with powerful cradle suplex to pick up the pinfall.

The Game gets played by Mr. Mcmahon:
All week, Triple H had planned to settle the score between him and Carlito in the 15-foot-high steel cage on Raw. He dreamt of ways to turn the Caribbean Bad Apple into applesauce. But an old rival reared his head to foil The Game’s plans, and put the first blemish on Triple H’s record since he returned at SummerSlam – Mr. McMahon.

Mr. McMahon promised on Raw that he would hurt Triple H where it mattered most to him – in the win-loss column – for the stinging humiliation he had put the Chairman through over his bastard son, Hornswoggle. He announced that he, the Chairman himself, was going to team with Carlito in a Handicap Steel Cage Match against The Cerebral Assassin, and he guaranteed that he would make Triple H a loser in the Bradley Center.

McMahon made good on his promise. With Carlito running interference on The Game, Triple H struggled throughout the match to keep his eyes on the Chairman, who repeatedly tried climbing out of the cage. As Triple H tried to Pedigree the Chairman, Carlito delivered a crushing Backstabber to The Game’s spine.

Carlito tied up Triple H in the corner, allowing the Chairman to climb over the cage in the opposite corner. Despite The Game’s efforts to pull McMahon back into the cage, the Chairman was able to slip his grasp, falling to the arena floor for the win.
The Chairman pointed at The Cerebral Assassin, laughing at him mockingly. He had outsmarted one of the best ring strategists in WWE. But what wasn’t in the plan was Carlito’s escape from the cage.

“You wanna play, Vince?,” The Game screamed at the Chairman, who watched from the safety of the aisleway. Triple H then bounced Carlito from cage wall to wall until he was a cracked, bloody apple. The Game then sent a clear message to the Chairman when he Pedigreed the Bad Apple on a steel chair.

As The Game grumbled over his loss, McMahon boasted that he had made the 10-time World Champion a “big looooser.”

“I’ve got his number, and he knows it … the advantage is on my side,” McMahon told Acting Raw General Manager Jonathan Coachman.

But the Chairman couldn’t pack his bags quick enough when Coach told him The Game was on the prowl at the Bradley Center. Triple H found Mr. McMahon just before he was able to escape his dressing room.

“How about next week, you and me, one-on-one, right here on Raw. Put your billion dollars where your mouth is,” Triple H said. “Unless you’re scared…?”

“You’re on,” the Chairman reluctantly accepted.

Triple H grinned, staring a hole through the billionaire. “And you’re screwed,” he promised.

McMahon family values:
Hornswoggle might not possess the height of Mr. McMahon, but he’s proving every inch as resourceful.

While the Chairman has made a career and built a sports-entertainment dynasty by tearing down those who disagree with his ruthless and underhanded tactics, Hornswoggle has drawn on only his ingenuity to retaliate against his enemies.

Case in point: On Monday night, Mr. McMahon himself summoned the lusty leprechaun to the ring and told him many of the WWE Divas were dying to get to know him better after learning that he was a McMahon.

“Being a McMahon means having the power to make decisions,” the Chairman told his son.

One decision the little guy had no trouble making was to get his shamrocks off when Melina joined him in the squared circle and suggested that they get better acquainted.

Unfortunately for Hornswoggle, Melina’s interest was purely self-serving. The former Women’s Champion and Raw Acting General Manager Jonathan Coachman had earlier reached an agreement that she would go out with Hornswoggle and callously dump him afterward in exchange for an opportunity at the title.

“I can’t believe he touched me with his grimy, little paws,” she told Jillian. “I don’t even think 15 showers are going to get this funk off.”

Melina may think twice the next time she takes a shower – or work harder to clean off the leprechaun funk. The Cruiserweight Champion got a look at her lucky charms as she showered, sending her fleeing the locker room in only a towel. Showing equal parts creativity and cleverness, Hornswoggle next put Coachman in the crosshairs. As the Acting GM prepared to strip John Cena of the WWE Championship, Raw announcer Lilian Garcia interrupted him to announce that Mr. McMahon had ordered a Tables Match between him and The Champ.

Despite Coachman’s protest, Cena slammed him through a table using the FU. After the match, Cena grabbed the mic to thank Mr. McMahon for the opportunity… Hornswoggle McMahon that is.

Hornswoggle looked upon the aftermath of his decision with a McMahonian glint in his eye. It was a firm reminder that while the little guy looks to be branching out, his tactics are still firmly rooted in the McMahon family tree.

No surrender in Champ, thanks to Irish:
It took a McMahon to nearly end WWE Champion John Cena’s year-long title reign Monday night on Raw. But it also took a McMahon to give him the luck of the Irish – and a little bit of revenge – and save his pot of gold.

At the start of Raw, The Champ probably would have never guessed that Mr. McMahon’s little bastard, Hornswoggle, would save his WWE Championship. But ironically, Mr. McMahon enabled that to happen; he told Hornswoggle before the world that being a McMahon meant he had authority that couldn't be questioned.

Still, Cena almost saw his rage over his ongoing personal rivalry get the best of him Monday night. Mr. McMahon gave Jonathan Coachman the power to decide whether to strip Cena of the WWE Championship in a Championship Surrender Ceremony after he attacked the Acting Raw General Manager.

The Champ clearly had vengeance on his mind; he was seething over the beating his father took against Randy Orton in a match that Coachman set up last week. Mr. Cena put his body on the line after Coachman threatened to strip his son of the WWE Championship. Last week, Orton attacked Cena and handcuffed him to the ring ropes, making him watch as he gave his father a horrific thrashing.

The WWE Champion was out for blood – Orton and Coachman’s. His own blood had to boil when Orton was conveniently not around. Initially, Coachman claimed he didn’t condone Orton’s actions and had indefinitely suspended the Legend Killer.

But that didn’t stop Cena from trying to exact some revenge. Even after Coachman told him he would be stripped of his title if he laid his hands on him, Cena evaded security guards surrounding the ring and attacked. The Champ didn’t care about his WWE Championship at that moment. He only saw his father getting beaten mercilessly by Orton. Cena relived the helplessness he felt and believed that Coachman was an accomplice in his father’s pain.

Still, Cena can thank Orton and Coachman for making him refocus on the WWE Championship. Via satellite, the Legend Killer called Cena a phony, and said he took the "easy way out" when he got disqualified in their match at Unforgiven. He taunted him over the beating he inflicted on Mr. Cena, saying that he enjoyed annihilating him. Orton invited Cena to bring his dad to Raw next week so he could get a preview of what would happen to his son during their Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship at No Mercy on Oct. 7. Mr. Cena's pain was just a taste of what his son would feel at No Mercy.

Meanwhile, Coachman’s vindictive motives came through after Cena’s attack. He admitted not suspending Orton indefinitely and applauded his attack on Cena’s dad. Mr. Cena, Coach noted, had sacrificed his body for his son’s WWE Championship. He knew what the WWE Championship meant to his son and didn’t want him stripped of the title. Now, Coach mused, Mr. Cena's brave sacrifice would be for naught. As Mr. Cena nursed his wounds back home, he would have to watch his son relinquish the WWE Championship anyway.

Coachman relished the opportunity to take the WWE Championship away from Cena. He wanted The Champ to beg him not to take away his title. Coach, who has had a history of run-ins with Cena, felt like he had a point to prove as Acting GM of Raw. He wanted to be feared and respected and deemed as a worthy permanent Raw GM – and making an example of Cena would do that.

However, Mr. McMahon – Mr. Hornswoggle McMahon – had other plans. The mischievous leprechaun showed that he knows exactly what kind of new power he has as a McMahon. Our fans in the Bradley Center gasped along with Coachman when Lilian Garcia announced that Mr. McMahon ordered that Cena not be stripped of the WWE Title, and that he take on Coach in a Tables Match.

Cena unleashed his fury on the suit-laden, babbling Coach and happily sent him crashing through a table. It then became apparent that it wasn’t Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon who had ordered the reversal of fortune for Cena. Hornswoggle and Coach haven’t had much love for each other in recent weeks, and the little guy gave him a taste of his own executive medicine.

John Cena celebrated – for himself and his dad at home. They both had reason to smile because of a little McMahon with giant-sized grapefruits.
